Accessible beach matting

Following a successful trial last year, Mount Martha Beach has again become a wheelchair accessible beach. Beach matting will be rolled out each weekend from 2 December to 29 April, thanks to our partnership with Disabled Surfers Association Mornington Peninsula and Mount Martha Life Saving Club.

The Accessible Beach Matting project gives people of all abilities an opportunity to travel across the sand to enjoy a beach and water experience.

All Access programs

The Shire runs several ‘All Access’ programs around the peninsula covering activities, including exercise for older adults, and those with specific health and fitness needs.

Sport & Leisure also facilitates activities for people with a disability in partnership with various organisations. For further information visit our webpages on Accessible Recreation

Master Locksmiths Access Key – MLAK

The Master Locksmiths Access Key (MLAK) is a system designed to give people with disabilities 24 hour access to a network of public facilities across Australia. MLAK Keys can be purchased from your nearest Master Locksmith or borrowed from a Customer Service Centre of Council.

MLAK Keys have been fitted to elevators at railway stations, certain accessible toilets, National Parks and in adaptive playground equipment (Liberty Swing).

The MLAK can open all toilets, playgrounds and facilities displaying the MLAK symbol

Dial-A-Bus

The Dial-A-Bus service collects passengers from the footpath at the address given when booking (or nearest safe collection point), and transports them to any location in the service area.

The Dial-A-Bus service is for passengers aged 60 plus, and people of any age with a disability (and their carer). Passengers need to be independent and mobile (wheelchairs and mobility aid accommodated).

For more information visit our section on Dial-A-Bus.

Mobility Maps

Mobility maps have been produced by the Shire to assist electric scooter and wheelchair users to know where accessible toilets, wheelchair / scooter recharge points, accessible car parking and accessible footpaths are located.

Scooter Recharge Scheme

The Recharge Scheme is an initiative which invites businesses to provide a power point for people to recharge the batteries of their electric wheelchair or scooter. There are many people within our Shire who have restricted access and rely on these vehicles as a means of transport. The batteries on electric wheelchairs and scooters last only a few hours, and so having many accessible recharge locations throughout the peninsula will allow people to travel for longer and be more active in the community. View current recharge locations on the peninsula or learn more about the Recharge Scheme.
