Register of Public Roads Policy and Protocol

Roads are one of the more popular topics for our community and we often receive queries about inspection, maintenance and repair.

Not all roads in the Mornington Peninsula are constructed and maintained the same. Come take part in the survey to find out why and give feedback on our updated Register of Public Roads Policy.

We have recently updated our Register of Public Roads Policy and Protocol. The Policy addresses the unique challenges posed by a mix of public and private roads within the Shire and aims to educate the community about what type of roads are cared for and maintained by the Shire. Some roads fall under the responsibility of the Shire or Department of Transport and Planning, while others are privately owned. Many residents are unaware of the intricacies involved in maintaining Peninsula’s many roads and streets, sometimes leading to confusion or frustration.
