A Strategic Plan for Peninsula Trails

Consultation has concluded

The Peninsula Trail is a transformational opportunity for our region to showcase the many attractions and unique experiences of the Mornington Peninsula. We’re working to create 130 km Peninsula-wide shared trails on Bunurong Country, improving connections and experiences for walkers, cyclists and the broader community.

A connected trail will provide a world-class walking and cycling experience for residents and visitors to our region that go beyond active living, connecting townships and delivering a host of economic, social, environmental and cultural benefits.

Strategic Plan

We have been working on a Strategic Plan that sets a framework to deliver the Peninsula Trails concept by prioritising and evaluating the sections to determine the optimum way to realise the vision of this project.

The Strategic Plan consists of three parts:

  1. Strategic Framework: Incorporates guiding principles for the project and a vision for the Peninsula Trails.
  2. Trails Overview: Outlines trail types, potential user groups, along with the opportunities and characteristics associated with each section.
  3. Implementation Plan: Includes 48 recommendations on the delivery of the Trails which is presented in phases of activity and priority.

Our priority is ensuring all potential opportunities and benefits of the Trails are identified and supported, whilst providing an essential tool to guide short and long-term investment and decision-making for an iconic trail experience. This enables the Trail to be properly planned, developed, and activated in a unified way delivering multiple benefits for the community.

  1. Peninsula Trails Exemplars
  2. Peninsula Trails Attractions and Activity Mapping

These documents showcase additional trail experiences, and highlight some of the existing attractions, features and experiences throughout the Shire and how they connect to the different sections.
