Thank you to everyone who shared feedback on the future of animal management on the Peninsula.

More than 650 locals took part in the consultation, helping shape the Domestic Animal Management Plan 2026–2029 — our four-year plan to support responsible pet ownership, balance community needs and keep shared spaces clean and safe for everyone.

  • The plan includes a number of new actions, such as

    • Assessing requests for new leash-free areas
    • Reviewing existing dog controls in public places, with community input along the way
    • Considering trials of dog waste bins and bag dispensers in leash-free reserves
    • Exploring opportunities to create new leash-free spaces
    • Investigating a Shire-run desexing program for cats and dogs
