With visitor numbers booming in the popular tourist town in peak holiday season and on long weekends throughout the year, the need for more car parks is evident. Expanding the Morce Avenue car park and reviewing parking limits will reduce congestion and provide increased parking opportunities.

The introduction of parking limits for part of the car park will encourage vehicle turnover. A large portion of the car park will remain all day parking to suit business employees and other longer-stay users.

Expanding the car park will also take the pressure off nearby residential streets, which are subjected to parking overflow, especially in summer.

The options are at different price points and with varying impacts on vegetation and Morce Avenue. The estimated costs are based on features and associated works (e.g. vegetation removal, realignment of road). Unfortunately, a multi-storey car park would be too costly and as such the former Council decided to endorse an at grade car park extension for community consultation back in August 2024.
