Rates fund the services and facilities we rely on every day (roads, parks, waste collection, libraries, and community services). We may not use every service equally, but they help keep our community safe, connected, and thriving.

Every few years, we review how rates are calculated to make sure the system reflects community needs, long-term financial planning and State requirements. This year's review explores these proposed changes.

Proposed changes in the draft Rating Strategy Options

Retirement Village Differential Rate

  • A discounted differential rate for residents in retirement villages at 80% of the general rate
  • Adds $4 more to the average household's rates.
Waste Service Charge (indicative figures based on current year budget)
  • Separate charges for household bin collections and public waste/cleaning services
  • Most households with bins will add $41 more to rates (From $433 to $474 a year).
  • For properties without bin collection, this will reduce rates by $303 (from $433 to $130).

Rates Payment Options and Schedule from 2027 onwards

When you receive your rates notice in August 2027:

  • Quarterly Instalments - make four instalment payments in September (2027), December (2027), February (2028) and May (2028).
  • Full payment - no longer offered, however you can pre-pay all four instalments by 30 September 2027
  • Other pay options remain the same.

Farmland Classification Review

  • Implement a rolling 4-5 year review program for all properties currently classified as farmland.
  • Around 240 properties will be reassessed each year to confirm eligibility for the differential rate discount.
  • This process ensures fairness and consistency across all ratepayers.
