The Mornington Peninsula has seen far too many lives lost and injuries caused by road trauma. In the past 15 years, 105 people have been killed, and over 2,300 seriously injured. But we’re not giving up on making our roads safer.
Now, it's your turn to help us shape the future of road safety in the Shire!
Why your opinion matters
Crash statistics are crucial and a key consideration in seeking external grant funding, but they don’t always tell the whole story.
We want to hear from you about what roads feel unsafe and which areas need attention – whether or not the data backs them up.
We’ve put together a list of high-priority locations: roads and intersections with the highest number of crashes, but we also want to hear more than just the stats. That’s why we’ve included locations the community has raised as concerns, even if they don’t have the highest crash rates.
Locations identified will either fall under the jurisdiction of the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council or require advocacy and support from the Department of Transport (DTP) as the responsible road authority.
We’re also working on several road safety projects that need your feedback. These projects could be eligible for funding through existing programs like the Federal Black Spot Program, the State Government’s Safer Local Roads & Streets Program (SLRSP), and the Motorcycle Safety Levy (MSL) programs.
The Department of Transport and Transport Accident Commission's Safer Local Roads and Streets Program (SLRSP) is an initiative designed to enhance road safety through infrastructure improvements on high-risk local roads by integrating local government priorities with a Safe System approach. The Department of Transports Motorcycle Safety Levy (MSL) is program used to fund motorcycle safety projects, while the Black Spot Program targets high risk road locations nationwide by providing funding for safety improvements to reduce the risk of crashes.
Your feedback could help us secure the funding needed to make these improvements happen.
Together, we can make a difference. Your voice matters and will help us create a prioritised list of road safety projects that reflect the concerns of our community. The goal is to ensure that we create safer roads for everyone and reduce the risk of accidents, regardless of whether it's a Council or State managed road.
